The Society for Musicology in Ireland (SMI)
I am the Student Representative for the SMI (2021–24). Please do get in touch if you have queries or would like to raise student matters to be brought to Council.
Prior to being elected as Student Representative, I was the the part-time administrator for the society (2020–21).
The Dublin Musicology Collective for Graduate Welfare
I am a founding member of the DMC, which was founded in 2020 and launched in the midst of the global Covid-19 pandemic. Our aim is to build an inclusive network of postgraduate scholars in the early stages of their academic careers and to bring people together from different institutions in the Greater Dublin Area. One of the advantages of the pandemic has been the wider reach that we have been able to achieve through our virtual meet-ups, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to the community via the website or Twitter. We are always looking to connect.
I am a member of the award-winning Laetare Vocal Ensemble, a mixed-voice vocal group based in Dublin and directed by Róisín Blunnie. The choir performs a wide range of repertoire and actively promotes the work of contemporary Irish composers, including Seán Doherty and Rhona Clarke. Have a listen here.
During 2018-19 I had the pleasure of being a member of the newly-founded Opus 48, a choral society based in Oxford under the direction of David Crown. In our 2018 debut we performed the requiems of Duruflé and Fauré. In the Spring of 2019 we performed Brahms’s Ein deutsches Requiem in Oxford’s Sheldonian Theatre, for which I had the pleasure of writing the programme notes (viewable here.) Our summer concert featured the arresting Carmina Burana by Orff, and a number of Copland’s American Songs.
